How to Mix Metals

Silver and gold, silver and gold . . . excuse me, but it is not Christmas time! But that doesn’t mean people don’t have those metal finishes on their mind. Mixing metal finishes, like silver + gold or chrome + black, can be tastefully mixed in one space! Say yes, I can, to mixing metals with these 3 key guidelines in this protip.

  1. Choose a dominant metal finish that will be used for a majority of the metal finishes in a space.

  2. Choose a supporting metal finish. A different finish from the first, this is your mix in secondary metal finish and can be whatever you choose.

  3. Make sure the supporting metal occurs at least twice in a space. This part is key because it shows there is intent behind the design, which will alleviate those questioning feelings.

Happy Mixing!

These are all, of course, design tendencies. Tendencies can be strategically broken, but for most people these general guidelines are relevant and helpful. Happy designing
